Wildflower blu salon

When I talk about ‘branded murals,’ I often wonder if potential clients understand fully what I mean. Through color, design elements, and yes, logo design, we inform the viewer outright but also subliminally with our design choices, helping customers to feel a certain way about our products, services, or environment. To create a branded mural simply means your designer considers your existing brand identity and your goals for the artwork in order to create a really impactful overall design that magnetizes your ideal customer.

At Wildflower Blu Salon in Tulsa, Oklahoma, we created a branded mural to invite customers into this airy, feminine space and of course branded the wall next to the entrance with their logo. This design was applied as the salon had completed their buildout and was preparing to open their doors.

Naturally, this design had to include a floral aspect. At the owner’s request, we strayed from the daintier wildflowers in order to include ‘english garden roses’ like stylized peonies, anemones, and poppies. As with every mural design, I offered three initial design options to begin narrowing down our design. I polled my Instagram followers which design they might have chosen, and here were the results:

This client chose Option 1. Ultimately, I agreed this was the best choice for this brand. With more context about the brand and its goals for this artwork, I’m sure many of my followers would have agreed.

We achieved a wildflower look with the composition of flowers flowing abundantly around the logo. The flowers swirl in a circular motion around the center, ultimately always leading to the brand name. We achieved this with by allowing the original dark navy of the logo to remain the darkest shade in the palette and by creating a generous amount of white space around the logo.

Thanks to the large storefront windows and bold artwork, potential customers can see this mural from the sidewalk!

You’ll notice many of the flowers seem to flow and edge toward the logo to encourage the eye to move in its direction.

This design was a whopping eight colors which presented a challenge for the minimum of two coats per color, but it is so worth it for the end result. This design came out beautifully.
